TV preview: ‘Doctor Who’ will regenerate

The annual "Doctor Who" Christmas special is a particularly big deal this year. Not just because Doctor makes sacrifices to save a town called Christmas, but because it’s time for him to regenerate. This is Matt Smith’s final appearance as the title character — Peter Capaldi takes over the role in the final scene of the episode titled "The Time of the Doctor."
