Salt Lake Gallery Stroll in a holiday mood
Thanksgiving and Christmas are on the minds of the artists and gallery owners taking part in his month's Salt Lake Gallery Stroll, Friday at participating galleries in and around downtown Salt Lake City.
Here are some highlights:
Holiday sale • The Utah Arts Festival Gallery and Art Access are hosting their combined Holiday Show, 6 to 9 p.m., at their adjoining galleries at the Artspace City Center, 230 S. 500 West. UAF's gallery features 25 local artists, while Art Access showcases more than 35 local artists. Cellist Tracie Price will perform.
Climate, times 3 • A closing reception for abstract artist William Reed is set for 6 to 9 p.m. at Sugar Space, 616 E. Wilmington Ave (2190 South), in Sugar House. Reed's show features recent large pieces, notably "The Climate Change Triptych," which measures 12 ½ feet wide by 4 feet high.
Two painters • Painters Brad Slaugh and Joy Nunn have concurring exhibits complementing each other through their differences in a show called "Expressions," at Charley Hafen Jewelers Gallery, 1409 S. 900 East. Slaugh's work leans toward representational art, while Nunn's tends to be more abstract (though not always). The reception runs from 6 to 9 p.m.
Favorite things • The not-for-profit Art at the Main, in the atrium of the City Library's main branch at 210 E. 400 South, has a holiday group show, "A Few of Our Favorite Things." The show features the different styles, subjects and media of the gallery's 15 member artists. The reception, from 6 to 9 p.m., features live music by Mason and Carly Fetzer of The Precinct.
In your dreams • "Lost - Lucid - Dreams" is the title for the show at the Urban Arts Gallery, at 137 S. Rio Grande, in The Gateway shopping center. Five artists Steven Larson, Sri Whipple, Tai Taeoalii, Caitlin Hawker (winner of UAG's skate-deck art competition) and Sandy Parsons are featured. The reception runs from 6 to 9 p.m.
