Selena Gomez

Show of the week • Selena Gomez has a few things in common with Miley Cyrus, mostly that they both used to draw paychecks from the Walt Disney Company by creating kidcentric fan bases around their singing and their sitcoms — "Hannah Montana" for Cyrus and "Witches of Waverly Place" for Gomez. The 21-year-old Gomez, like Cyrus, has showed her grown-up side, starring earlier this year in the R-rated "Spring Breakers," which contained copious amounts of drug consumption and sexuality (though Gomez did little of either, since her character was the Christian good girl). But Gomez knows to keep her younger fans, so don't expect her show at EnergySolutions Arena, on the "Stars Dance" tour, to be all twerking and questionably employed foam fingers. A review last weekend in the Dallas Morning News said Gomez, in her concert there, "came off as the girl next door as opposed to another Disney girl gone wild." If you miss her Utah tour stop, you can catch her soon on TV, performing the halftime show with the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders at the Cowboys/Raiders game Thanksgiving Day.
