Works by famous artists from Utah and the West are going on sale starting this month as a major Salt Lake City gallery owner puts them on the auction block one at a time.
Clayton Williams, owner of Williams Fine Art, is starting a yearlong online auction featuring 50 masterworks whose values range from $10,000 to $250,000.
The list of Utah artists is impressive, with legendary masters such as LeConte Stewart, Waldo Midgley, Cyrus Dallin and Minerva Teichert.
Works by great 19th-century Utah artists such as John Hafen, Alfred Lambourne and George M. Ottinger are among those in the sale, as well as 20th-century artists Henri Moser, Florence Ware, Howell Rosenbaum, Frank Zimbeaux, Lee Green Richards and Alvin Gittins. Two living Utah artists, Jeffrey Hein and Randall Lake, are represented.
Rounding out the list are two great Western artists: Maynard Dixon and Frederic Remington.
Williams said the items represent art he has collected over 25 years.
Williams will sell one artwork a week, starting on Monday, Nov. 11. He will post each artwork online on Monday morning and take silent bids through Friday at 5 p.m. The high bid for each day will be posted at 5 p.m. (The gallery will set minimum bids, and bid increments must be more than $200.)
Items can be previewed at Williams Fine Art, 132 E St., Salt Lake City, during regular business hours, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. They also can be viewed on the gallery's website, williamsfineart.com.
