Two vegan eateries share one Salt Lake kitchen

Two of Salt Lake City’s favorite vegan eateries are now sharing one Salt Lake City space.

Cakewalk Baking Co. has started baking its vegan treats from the Frisch Compassionate Eatery building at 779 S. 500 East.

Cakewalk owner and head baker Kelly Colobella closed her original storefront at 434 S. 900 East several months ago. Since then, she has been filling orders from a commercial kitchen in Woods Cross.

"I wasn’t really sure I wanted another store front," she said on Monday.

Sharing the Frisch space has turned out to be a natural merger for the two eateries. Each day at Frisch, Colobella will offer an assortment of vegan baked goods — including the popular Dillos, a vegan version of the Hostess Twinkie. Customers can enjoy them along with the vegan and vegetarian fare prepared by Frisch owner/chef Rachel Kade.

Colobella said customers can always place special bakery orders (at least 48 hours in advance) online at http://www.cakewalkbakingcompany.com/.
