Show of the week » Mike Scott studied literature in college, and it never really left him. As proof, Scott, leader of the Celtic-rock band The Waterboys, wrote an album of songs, "An Appointment with Mr. Yeats," adapting the poems of William Butler Yeats.
"I noticed, even in my 20s, that his poems sat on the page like song lyrics," Scott said in a phone interview from his home in Dublin. "I would always follow the melody that suggested itself. … I just let them go where they wanted to go."
Scott and The Waterboys will be playing songs from that 2011 album, as well as hits going back to the band’s beginnings in the mid-1980s — such as "The Whole of the Moon." "It’s a really great song to sing and play," Scott said. "There are plenty of old Waterboys songs that don’t do it in the same way." Scottish singer-songwriter Freddie Stevenson is the opening act.
