On Tuesday, the state liquor commission awarded two coveted club licenses to the BTG Wine Bar in downtown Salt Lake City and Olde Town Tavern in Midvale.
But there are still 11 businesses waiting for Utah club licenses including four in Salt Lake City (Market Street Broiler, Sapa Sushi Bar, Annex by Epic Brewing and The Rest); three in Park City (Escala Provisions Company, Red Rock Junction and Miner’s Grill & Sports Bar); and one in Farmington (Twig’s Bistro & Martini Bar), Holladay (‘Bout Time Pub & Grub), Roosevelt (Barndog’s Grill) and Heber (Sidetrack Cafe).
Things are so desperate for businesses seeking licenses that the owner of the Sidetrack Cafe jumped at the chance to get a seasonal permit that’s only good for one month.
After Oct. 31, Sidetrack won’t be able to use the club license until next spring.
However, a license probably won’t be available by then, as the average license wait time has been about a year.
Many business owners — especially those that cater to tourists — prefer the club license because it doesn’t require patrons to order food with their drink. It also doesn’t require that drinks be mixed and poured behind a Zion Curtain.
