Grade • A-

DVD • In its fourth season, "Modern Family" was a model of consistency. And that's high praise for a sitcom this good as it approaches 100 episodes. It reached No. 96 at the end of Season 4, which began with the birth of Jay (Ed O'Neill) and Gloria's (Sofia Vergara) child.

The writers have the benefit of having so many well-established characters who have sort of a comedic shorthand with the audience. All the characters had their moments throughout the season. In almost every episode, for that matter.

What continues to make "Modern Family" so funny is that this family is our family, because we've grown to love them and because they remind us of our own loved ones. Only funnier and better written. —
