The Utah Symphony will perform with the multitalented Mandy Patinkin and his comrade Paul Ford on piano. Patinkin will sing a varied set that includes songs from some of his famous roles on Broadway (Georges Seurat in "Sunday in the Park with George" and Ché in the original Broadway production of "Evita") as well as other selections from The Great American Songbook. Ford is Patinkin’s inspiration. "I wouldn’t be here without Paul," he said. "He’s like the Library of Congress. Talk about a dance partner."

The 61-year-old jazz-fusion guitarist John Scofield and his quartet Überjam will co-headline a Red Butte Garden show with jazz explorers Medeski Martin & Wood. Because John Medeski has played on both of the Überjam albums, he will join in during part of Scofield’s set. "We’re buddies," Scofield said. "I really like his playing." "Überjam Deux" was released in July, 11 years after the first Überjam album. But that doesn’t mean Scofield has been relaxing — he has put out seven albums since.

If I tell you that The Discovery Channel is airing "Megalodon: The Monster Shark Lives" (Sunday, 10 p.m.), that can mean only one thing. Yes — Shark Week is back. And it kicks off with this documentary in which some scientists postulate that a huge white shark could be a megalodon, which were thought to be extinct.


Real Salt Lake travels to Colorado to take on the Rapids and determine the winner of this year’s Rocky Mountain Cup (Saturday, 7 p.m., Channel 4)
