With a title like "I'm So Excited!" (even with an exclamation point) and directed by the brave and colorful Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar ("Tie Me Up! Time Me Down!", "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown"), you would think this effervescent comedy would be more joyous and playful.

But the director's latest flight of fancy, about a plane full of passengers awaiting their fate on an emergency landing, falls with a thud. It's a mishmash of small tales and lewd encounters between passengers and the practically all-gay flight crew as they wait to land with faulty landing gear.

Even with a sexy finale, a good ensemble cast and a Pointer Sisters song-and-dance interlude, Almodóvar still can't keep the comedy and drama scintillating or interesting.
