Check the weather for flash flood warnings before hiking this trail. If it’s safe, follow the wash into Hellhole Canyon, where you’ll find water pockets and a little oasis. A sign at the trailhead calls the trail Kayenta Canyon, but it’s the same trail. The footpath leads into the wash. Follow the wash toward the cliffs to the north. The trail is sandy with lots of rocks, and footing can be difficult. As the trail approaches the canyon, you will have to climb around and over boulders. As the canyon narrows, you will see some trees and shallow water pockets. At about 2 miles, steep boulders make it difficult to continue. Most people turn around there.
