DVD • Music was a big part of the 1988-91 series "China Beach." And music is a huge part of why this Emmy, Golden Globe, Humanitas Prize and Peabody Award-winning series has never been put out on DVD — 302 songs had to be cleared before it could be released.

But, given that it's a period piece set during the Vietnam War, it's not like "China Beach" is dated a quarter of a century after it premiered. This series, told largely from the point of view of Army nurses, introduced Dana Delany, Marg Helgenberger and Ricki Lake to TV viewers and featured Utah native Brian Wimmer.

The writers and producers went on to bring us everything from "The West Wing" to "ER." It hasn't been easy to see "China Beach" since it left the air, but this release — which includes all 64 episodes and 10 hours of extras — will take care of that. —
