The long-time home of Cy’s Market in Sandy has re-opened as Local Flavors Market & Cafe, and its owners are selling mostly Utah-made products, from oatmeal, jams and chocolates to goat milk soaps.
Chris and Michelle Hauck are leasing the Cy’s Market space. They are also contacting farmers to add their locally-grown produce. In fact, the store has a suggestion box for customers to recommend their favorite Utah-based producers.
The store also sells coffee and sandwiches and soon soups, along with salads topped with locally made dressing. Tables and chairs are being locally made from recycled pallets. Expect to also see food trucks and other vendors in the parking lot.
For now, there are about 15 products, including Utah-based Crio Bru cocoa beans, Simply Eden skin care products, Chad’s Bear Lake jams and salsas, Millcreek Cacao Roasters chocolates, Butcher’s Bunches, Amour Spreads jams, Bees Brothers carmels, Grandma Sandino’s Sauce, Canyon Oats Oatmeal and Stone Ground Bakery bread.
"We were hoping we could help people get their product out there," said Michelle Hauck on why the 35-year-olds with day jobs started this business.
