Grade • B

DVD • "Rise of the Guardians" is the ultimate holiday mash-up, a "Justice League" of fairy-tale figures that includes the Easter Bunny (voiced by Hugh Jackman), Santa (voiced by Alec Baldwin), The Tooth Fairy (voiced by Isla Fisher) and the silent Sandman — battling the evil Pitch, aka The Boogeyman, (voiced by Jude Law), who aims to steal the dreams of all children.

The good guys need help, so they enlist a new Guardian: Jack Frost (voiced by Chris Pine), a rebel who must learn familiar lessons about responsibility and belonging.

Based on stories by William Joyce, director Peter Ramsay creates a luminous, though sometimes dark, look for the twilight world between childhood hopes and fears. —
