Justin Townes Earle

Show of the Week • Singer-songwriter Justin Townes Earle released his superb, fourth full-length album, "Nothing's Gonna Change the Way You Feel About Me Now," in 2012. He has stepped further outside his father Steve Earle's large shadow by producing "Unfinished Business," an album by Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Wanda Jackson. In a phone interview, Earle said he wanted the album to sound like a Wanda Jackson album as opposed to albums she had recorded over the 15 years when producers had meddled too much. "I kneel down next to her," Earle said. "She was wonderful to work with." Earle's recent album features more of a soul sound, which he said was a conscious decision. He said the move toward the sound of Memphis follows the same trajectory of the blues and rock-and-roll, which started down in the South with just an acoustic guitar and eventually evolved — just as his music has.

Zappa Plays Zappa

Spend a night reliving the music of Frank Zappa when Zappa Plays Zappa, led by Frank's son Dweezil, brings its "Accept No Substitutes" tour to The Depot. Frank Zappa, who died in 1993, was an eccentric American composer and producer noted for his eclectic mixes of rock, orchestral and studio sounds. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.
