Steven Swift
Spotlight show • Steven Swift, one of Southern Utah's best-known singer-songwriters, will headline a concert marking the 20th anniversary of the independent record store Groovacious, owned by Tim and Lisa Cretsinger. On Nov. 9, 1992, Groovacious opened its doors for the first time in Oregon, and after eight successful years, in October 2000, the couple moved their store to Cedar City. To mark the occasion, the record store will offer a 20 percent discount today, with Swift's show at the store at 7 p.m. "It's going to be a fun day," Tim Cretsinger said. Of the couple, Swift said, "God knows, they've helped me a lot over the years." To repay their kindness, he said his show will include only songs from 1992, from the likes of Nirvana, Loudon Wainwright III, the Jayhawks, Pearl Jam, Tom Waits, Phish and Peter Gabriel.
When • Friday, Nov. 9, 7 p.m.
Where • Groovacious, 173 N. 100 West, Cedar City

Spotlight show • The music of this Californian group harks back to the gauzy Laurel Canyon folk sound of the 1970s. They'll make their second visit to Utah after opening for The Civil Wars' May show at The Depot, and the trip will also mark the band's second visit to Kilby Court. "It's hard to forget that place," said singer and multi-instrumentalist Graham Fink. The band's rapidly ascending career got a boost when its debut album was released in July. "It's been a pretty fun six months," Fink said. The downside is that he and his bandmates are enduring life criss-crossing the country in a 12-passenger van, while Fink's tour duties include reminding his mates to change their socks on a regular basis. But the band loved the change from Daylight Saving Time this past weekend: They all received an extra hour of sleep, a godsend for a band on the road again. Bahamas is also on the bill.
