This week's Utah Crowd-Funding project comes without reservations.

Holladay-based photographer Justin Field is taking pictures of classic motel signs around the Salt Lake City area, for a book project he calls "Checking Out."

"The past is quickly drifting away from us," Field writes on his Kickstarter page. "I'm hoping to preserve moments in time before they are torn down and replaced with the new strip malls or apartments."

Field's Kickstarter campaign is seeking $3,297 to publish a coffee-table book of his photos. He needs to buy film, photo paper and processing chemicals, and cover publishing fees.

The campaign only launched today, and has $50 in pledges so far. The deadline is Jan. 30.

Benefits for backers range from a link to an online slideshow (for $1) to a framed-and-mounted hand-printed master print of one of Field's photos (for $1,000).
