Spotlight show • The State Room is known for bringing some of the greatest singer-songwriters in the world to its stage, but Cody ChesnuTT's headlining set on Tuesday is a great opportunity to see what The State Room's Darin Piccoli calls "something that usually doesn't grace our market." ChesnuTT is an Atlanta-born neo-soul and R&B singer whose criminally underappreciated album "The Headphone Masterpiece" was followed up with the beefier, full-bodied near-masterpiece "Landing on a Hundred" last year. In an interview, ChesnuTT said he last visited Utah about a decade ago when he was performing with The Roots at the Sundance Film Festival. Ten years later, he believes that having a son has totally changed him. "Having a child can purify your heart and mind if you want it to," ChesnuTT said. "I became more aware of what I was projecting. I can't be two different people," That's why the sometimes-crass nature of some of the lyrics of "The Headphone Masterpiece" have now been replaced with a more positive outlook. "All you can do is what you truly feel in your heart," he said.
