The trophies for Utah dancers continue to accumulate,
Cheyenne Murillo, 18, of Orem, with her professional dance partner Sasha Altukhov, won the World Pro-Am title at the Embassy Ballroom Championships last weekend in Irvine, California.
Competing against several couples representing numerous countries and other dancers from across the U.S., Cheyenne prevailed in every dance discipline, finishing first in all 5 dances.
This is the first world ProAm dance title from a resident of Utah.
Also, competing at the event from Utah were Carter Williams and Annika Baker, both 10 years old. The couple came away with the National Pre-teen Latin title.
All of these winners train at Utah's acclaimed CenterStage Performing Arts Studios in Orem. They are coached by Sasha Altukhov.
Cheyenne then traveled later that evening to compete in the United States Dance Championships, in Orlando, Florida, the most prestigious ballroom event in United States. Cheyenne captured the U.S .National title in Youth Latin with her partner, Dmytro Dmytrenko, 17.
Competing at the same event in Florida was Jacob Murillo, Cheyenne's brother, 14, with his partner Sydney Tormey, 15. This couple took home the gold and won the U.S. National Junior Latin Title winning every dance in their competition. They also train at CenterStage and are coached by Altukhov.
It was announced that this was the first time in the history of this competition in over 30 years that members from the same family won two or more national dance titles at this event.
In addition, their coach Altukhov, with parter Natalia Baranteseva, won the U.S. National title in the Professional Latin Competition at the United States Dance Championships in Orlando.
