Fitz & The Tantrums are the perfect warm act for Bruno Mar's "Moonshine Jungle World Tour," because the band's sophomore album, "More Than Just a Dream," encapsulates the joy the collective has exhibited since forming in 2008.
The Los Angeles-based band can no longer be defined as simply neo-soul, said Noelle Scaggs, who shares lead singing duties with bandleader Michael Fitzpatrick.
The question each member asked one another as they prepared to record the new album was, she said, "How much can we develop our sound?"
As a result, the sound is more bombastic, in the best sense of the word: it gets the party started with influences ranging from New Wave to Motown.
Watching Mars, who has become one of the most charismatic showman in the world, from the sidelines has been "an amazing experience," Scaggs said. "Everything he has in his career he's earned," she said. "They kill it each and every night."
And with Scaggs promising nothing less than "120 percent," this should be one of the best concerts of the year.
