Jazz Arts of the MountainWest, producer of the Salt Lake City International Jazz Festival, has named Louie Strike as the nonprofit's new president, where he and the board will also oversee outreach initiatives dedicated to enhancing music education."I am excited to serve in this capacity," said Strike in a press release. "As an ardent supporter of the Jazz festival, I hope that the board and I can build on the 13-year tradition that is already in place: a great jazz festival in beautiful and accessible downtown Salt Lake City. Outgoing president Ray Barrios has done a great job."Strike grew up in Salt Lake City. He went to East High and then the University of Utah on a basketball scholarship, where he earned degrees in math and philosophy and attended the David Eccles School of Business. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi. He also has an MBA from the University of Chicago and is an inactive CPA.Strike served as president or CEO for four different manufacturing firms in the Midwest during his career.Strike lives in both Cincinnati, Ohio and Salt Lake City, where Strike with his three sisters, Aileen, Cindy and Pam, own and maintain the family home.
