Art Garden plan seeking $2,000 on Kickstarter
What do you get when you mix produce with painting, soil with sculpture, manure with mixed-media? An art garden, of course.
That's the dream of the Utah Arts Alliance and the group Artists for Local Agriculture, who have plans for the Rail Yard Community Art Garden to be built at 630 W. 100 South, on the grounds of UAA's Arts Hub west of The Gateway.
The art garden, organizers say on their Kickstarter fund-raising page, "not only provides much needed space for members of the community to grow fresh organic food, but it uses the power of art to unite diverse crowds in support of a crucial cause."
The garden will offer standard garden plots for the public, but also "incentive and opportunity" for all manner of artists as well as regular events on a central stage that can include concerts, theater performances, workshops and classes.
The project has been in the planning stages for months, and now organizers have gone to Kickstarter to raise $2,000 in the next month for supplies with rewards for donors, from $5 to $500.
