International Children's Choir to perform holiday songs in Dec.

The International Children's Choir, dressed in colorful authentic costumes from around the world, will perform Holiday songs on Saturday, December 1 in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building Chapel.

Under the direction of Dr. Kathy Sorensen, the choir will entertain with handbells, instrumentalists, and dancers, and sing in Finnish, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Nigerian, Romanian, Spanish, Tagalog, and many other languages.

The afternoon matinee begins at 4:30 p.m. (for ages 5 and up).

The evening performance is 7:30 p.m. (for ages 8 and up).

Admission is free.

According to the choir's web site, Sorensen's doctoral research involved interviewing immigrants and refugees and asking them to sing their favorite songs. The International Children's Choir began 20 years ago as a natural outgrowth of Dr. Sorensen's research.

The ICC was invited to represent the American Continent in the Opening Ceremonies of the World Choir Olympics in Xiamen, China, and received multiple medals during the competition involving over 20,000 participants.They have also performed in: Austria, Czech Republic, England, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Norway, and Russia.During the 2002 Winter Olympics, the children performed in Light of the World in the Conference Center and Welcome the World concerts in Abravanel Hall with the Utah Symphony.
