Guitarist Austin Weyand and the band New Folk Revival will perform tonight at South Valley Unitarian Universalist Society (6876 South Highland Drive in Sandy) at 7:30 p.m. at the more recent concert of the Intermountain Acoustic Music Association series. The cost is $10 at the door ($5 for IAMA members). Children under 12 are free.

Austin Weyand is passionate about the guitar. He is someone who has played concertos with symphony orchestras, jazz jam sessions in Chicago, bluegrass and Celtic music on a tour through Europe, a local rock band which plays regularly in the intermountain west, and Spanish Flamenco for an 8 week run of the U.S. Premiere of Zorro the Musical, Austin can't get enough of the guitar. He is the winner of the 2008 state of Wyoming and 2012 state of Utah Fingerstyle Guitar Competitions and has been featured as a soloist and ensemble musician in concerts, television, radio and various recordings. Austin's second solo album was released in April 2012 and includes his own compositions and arrangements for his 3 young daughters.New Folk Revival features Pat Lambert on guitar and lead vocals, Eric Wagner on various instruments and lead vocals, and Joe Farmer on bass and harmony vocals. As the band name implies, the band plays mostly folk music, including some originals and other tunes from the Celtic and American folk music repertoire. Influences include Nancy Griffith, Emmy Lou Harris, Kate Wolf, Gillian Welch, Bill Staines, and Adrianne Young. With a nice variety of great songs both new and old, the band presents these with rich vocal harmony, a dash of humor, and tasteful instrumentation.
