Frozen treats day 16: Albino grasshopper frozen custard
Day 16 » Albino grasshopper frozen custard from CAMP at Liberty Park
First Published Aug 16 2012 08:16 am • Last Updated Aug 17 2012 01:49 pm

Throughout the month of August, Tribune writers are tasting our way through some of Utah’s finest frozen confections including ice cream, gelato, frozen yogurt and shave ice in an effort to beat the heat. Today’s pick:

Albino grasshopper frozen custard • The frozen custard is made fresh every day at this concession stand at Salt Lake City’s Liberty Park. Vanilla and chocolate are always available, but we were intrigued by the name of this daily special made with crumbled Oreo cookies and York Peppermint Patties. On other days, the new owners of the food stand might offer browned butter with maple bacon, dark chocolate with caramel and marshmallow, or even fresh berry flavors.

CAMP • 600 E. 900 South, inside near the children’s rides in Liberty Park, 1300 South between 500 and 700 East, Salt Lake City.

Shop talk • Whatever you may think about concession stand food, forget about it. At CAMP, the frozen custard is made fresh every day. It’s available in a cup or cone, or it can be made into a concrete shake. There’re also hamburgers made from local beef, and hot dogs, vegetable burgers and thin, crispy fries.

Look for daily picks in The Mix section every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. On other days of the week, you’ll find our suggestions at sltrib.com/Lifestyle.
