Saxophonist Jeff Coffin of the Dave Matthews Band will be the special guest artist at a free Gallivan Center concert Aug. 17 and fund-raiser for the Carnegie Hall-bound high-school-aged Crescent Super Band from Utah.

The Crescent Super Band is led by Caleb Chapman.

The concert will begin at 8 p.m. and is open to the public.

Earlier in the evening, a VIP reception for Coffin and band's fund raiser will held on the Gallivan Center grounds for individuals, donors and corporate officials to help raise $300,000 for the New York trip where the band will perform at Carnegie Hall May 21, 2013.It's the first time an invitation has been extended to a high school ensemble from Utah to appear in a full evening concert at the famed music hall – and may be a first for any high school band.

Coffin is coming to Utah at the invitation of Chapman. The two have known each other for seven years.

When Chapman told Coffin about the Aug. 17 concert date, Coffin responded that it was the only open date he had available during the summer concert season.
