Reggae and punk music come from the same worldview, so it should come as no surprise that 64-year-old reggae legend Jimmy Cliff has been working with Rancid’s Tim Armstrong on Cliff’s new album, "Rebirth," due out in July. "He’s a very honest person," said Cliff in a phone interview about Armstrong, to whom he was introduced by the late Joe Strummer of The Clash. "He expresses the same kind of sentiments we express in reggae music, about injustice." Last year, the Armstrong-produced Cliff EP called "Sacred Fire" was released, and the creative relationship was so fruitful that Cliff said "we just made it flow" on the new album. "Rebirth" contains original songs as well as a Rancid cover ("Ruby Soho") and a song by The Clash ("The Guns of Brixton"). Cliff said the new album represents a new chapter in his life.
