Like "Annie" and "The Sound of Music" long before it, Stephen Schwartz’s "Wicked" is fast becoming the kind of musical that’s anchored in the popular imagination.
That’s due in large part to the way it hooks its caboose to the old train of L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. As a back-story of exactly how the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good came to be, "Wicked" is hard to beat. It’s almost a bonus that it has great tunes to boot, such as "Popular," "I’m Not That Girl" and "As Long as You’re Mine" and "No Good Deed."
