By now you might have guessed that I am a huge Pearl Jam fan.
Before Pearl Jam, there was Mother Love Bone, with PJ bassist Jeff Ament and guitarist Stone Gossard. (And before that, Green River, but that's a story for another day.) While that Seattle band was a little too glam for my tastes, I still enjoy their only major-label album "Apple," which was the only album from them because lead singer Andrew Wood died from a drug overdose. The band dissolved after that, and eventually coalesced as Pearl Jam, with the addition of Ed Vedder and Mike McCready.
The great "Singles" soundtrack, put together by Cameron Crowe, included Mother Love Bone's "Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns," which on YouTube had a comment from someone that said that this is the "Stairway to Heaven" of grunge. It's hard to disagree:
It would take more than a decade before Vedder would take a stab at "Crown of Thorns," but later it became a part of some set lists:
