Spotlight show • Rock band Eve 6 disbanded in 2004, but the original lineup of Jon Siebels, Max Collins and Tony Fagenson is back together with a new album ("Speak in Code") and tour. "It feels better than it should," said Siebels in an interview. "We have a renewed appreciation and focus." During the hiatus, Collins and Fagenson formed a new band called The Sugi Tap, and Siegels worked on a number of projects, including with the band Monsters Are Waiting. But now the band members are all over 30, and the group has matured since it first tasted success with singles "Inside Out" and "Here's To the Night" while barely out of high school. "Max likes to say [the success] was before our brains developed," Siebels said. As a result, Siebels boasts a new, mature sound. "We stretched out musically," he said. "We're bringing new stuff to the table."

Death Angel
Spotlight show • The Bay Area-based metal band was a veteran at Club Vegas (before it closed) but now has a new venue to conquer when its tour supporting Sepultura comes into town. "We have something to prove every night, especially if we're not headlining," said lead singer Mark Osegueda. The band has gone through many lineup changes since forming as teenagers in the 1980s, but the creative writing chemistry between Osegueda and Rob Cavestany continues, and the current incarnation thrashes as healthily as it ever has, Osegueda said. "Right now, it's like a locomotive to me," he said. "Everyone is on the same page. We're a touring machine." Having something to prove also means being hungry, even as the band has entered its fourth decade. The hiatus between 1991 and 2001 built a fire underneath the band, he said. "We had that hunger in the 1980s, and when we missed it in the '90s, we want[ed] to be hungry again." The band, Osegueda said, is hungry.

Carlos Mencia
Spotlight show • When Honduran-American comic Carlos Mencia walks onstage Sunday, his being slimmer by nearly 50 pounds won't be the only change audiences might see. After enduring a public drubbing by fellow comics such as Marc Maron over charges of joke-stealing and possessing an oversized ego, "I have changed my ways," Mencia said in an interview, adding that his changes came after a self-imposed period of self-examination. "There are things that I like about myself and things I don't like about myself," Mencia said. His shyness is often mistaken as arrogance, he said, so he makes a point of "trying to engage more with people." What hasn't changed is Mencia's popularity, boosted by his former Comedy Central show "Mind of Mencia." "I want to talk about things that are on people's minds that they are afraid to talk about," he said. "I want to be ahead of the curve." A veteran of performing in Wendover, Mencia, 44, joked about the Utahns who have come to his past shows. "Everybody is LDS before the border, but not after," he said.

The Naked and Famous
Spotlight show • New Zealand's indie electro-pop group The Naked and Famous is still riding the wave of success it caught when it released its 2010 debut full-length "Passive Me, Aggressive You," based on the success of singles "Young Blood" and "Punching in a Dream." In an interview, frontman Thom Powers said the band's musical tastes coalesced over Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. "Nine Inch Nails was something we all bonded over," Powers said. "They pulled me into a different world. It's still cool to me." The synth-pop success of "Young Blood" has resulted in predictable backlash for the band. "Oh my God, relax, it's just music," Powers said he tells critics. "I was 20 when I wrote that. … Some of those [critics] turn into serial killers." Another inspiration for the band is Bon Iver. "How did the f—- did that happen?" Powers rhetorically asked about Bon Iver winning Best New Artist at the 2012 Grammy Awards. "He is a classic idea of a songwriter. He's paved the way for songwriters. He's one of the few to use Auto-Tune in a clever way." Vacationer opens.

Celtic Woman
Spotlight show • Celtic Woman's new show, "Believe," features the all-female singing group performing classic Irish tunes, pop anthems and inspirational songs, under the musical direction of David Downes. Making their first appearances in Utah are Lisa Lambe and Susan McFadden, the latter replacing Lisa Kelly while Kelly is on maternity leave. Lambe, a red-headed Dublin native, said she was welcomed like a sister when she joined the group in December 2010, so "it's nice to return the favor and help someone new," she said of McFadden. The group is known for its harmonies, but Lambe will have the spotlight for at least three solos, including during "A Spaceman Came Travelling" from "Believe" and "Dúlaman," the Irish word for seaweed and a song from the group's second album, "A New Journey." Lambe is excited about the group's tribute to Broadway. "I get to perform 'Circle of Life,' " she said. "I get to pretend I'm Simba for a few minutes."
