During her tenure as chief curator at the Utah Museum of Fine Art, Jill Dawsey, who left late last year to become an associate curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego, established the "salt" series of art exhibitions. The series has brought young contemporary artists who are emerging in various corners of the globe to Utah for solo shows, including Sophie Whettnall from Belgium and American Xaviera Simmons.
Fortunately, the UMFA is continuing the program into the future.
Salt 5, curated by Dawsey, began March 30 and showcases Utah artist Daniel Everett. Everett works in a range of media to explore the way the man-made environment, including architecture and surveillance, shape individual experience. The exhibit includes several photographic prints, two video pieces and mixed-media installations.
