Salt Lake City-based Grace Carter Design found a niche in an unlikely market—galoshes (though they prefer the term "Stylish ShoeCovers")—and their fashionable snow/rain/muck boots have won an international award.

"Travel + Leisure" magazine named the ShoeCovers "Best Travel Accessory 2012" in its annual Design Awards issue http://bit.ly/A38a2W . The stretchy galoshes are designed for in-town expeditions with a weather-resistant fabric that allows the cover to conform to classic shoe silhouettes from ballet flats to stiletto heels. They cost about $88, which isn’t bad if the save a $400 pair of pumps and a case of frostbite.
