Utah singer-songwriter offering free download of abusive-dating song
After encountering a survivor of an abusive dating relationship, Utah singer-songwriter Katie McMinn believed she had to do something to help other teens facing similar situations.
McMinn works in the violence prevention field herself. "The strength that survivors of abuse have is inspiring to me," said McMinn in a press release. "I wanted to bring that strength and courage into my music and reach teens in a way that resonates with them." As a result, McMinn wrote "Sleep Through It", a song which describes an unhealthy relationship. According to the release, :The song is about a boy who witnesses domestic violence growing up and as he grows into adulthood, mimics the relationship he saw his parents have. In 2008, it was selected as the theme song for Utah's Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, which is recognized each February." To help raise awareness of dating violence, McMinn is offering free downloads of "Sleep Through It" until the end of February. The song can be downloaded at http://cdbaby.com/cd/katiemcminn2.
