For 15 years, the "Resident Evil" franchise has outlasted most video game series, with more than 20 iterations on nearly every gaming console in recent history. But for the first time, a full-fledged "Resident Evil" game that harkens back to the original gameplay mechanics arrives on a portable gaming system, and the results are likely to shock you out of your nervous system.
In "Resident Evil: Revelations" for the Nintendo 3DS, "RE" veteran soldiers Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield again fend off zombie-like creatures and an impending virus in a story arc divided into television-like episodes.
Like previous titles, it’s light on plot, and the controls are as limited as past "RE" games (especially with only one analog joystick on the 3DS). But the 3D graphics are the best yet displayed on the device, giving the game the jittery atmosphere it needs.
Don’t let the fact this is a game on a portable system fool you. "Revelations" is a revelation alright — it proves you can cram all that well-worn "Resident Evil" terror into a tiny handheld system.
