Meet guest violinist Simone Lamsma

The young violinist has a growing career in Europe and the United States, built on fine musicianship and personal charisma. She makes her first appearances with the Utah Symphony this week.

Age » 26

Nationality » Born in the Netherlands, and resides there after years of music study in London.

Training » Started violin studies at age 5 in the Netherlands; entered London’s Yehudi Menuhin School and Royal Academy of Music at age 11. Was the youngest student to enter the Royal Academy’s bachelor of music program. She graduated at 19 with first-class honors and several prestigious awards.

Competitions » Second prize at the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis (2006); first prize at China International Violin Competition (2005), the Benjamin Britten International Violin Competition (2004) and the Dutch National Violin Competition (2003).

Recordings » Two critically acclaimed discs for the Naxos label.

Instrument » The ex Chanot-Chardon Stradivarius (1718) previously owned by Joshua Bell, on loan to Lamsma from an anonymous benefactor.
