The Kindle is catching more fire, more and more it’s an online world.
Yet in Salt Lake City we still have independent bookstores that let us browse books in their natural state, in ways that let these objects saturate our consciousness in ways an online experience cannot. That’s a good thing.

In celebration of books’ enduring tradition onward and into the future the new Weller Book Works in Trolley Square—the brave incarnation of the old Sam Weller’s on Main Street—will open its doors 10 a.m. after its two-week moving break. Snacks, giveaways and deals galore at between 20 and 30 percent off are all in the offing.
Marketing prior to the store’s grand opening is firmly in the renegade spirit, reflecting all it takes for independent stores to survive in our ruthless online age. A "Book Drop" of 878 titles across the city, sporting jackets celebrating the spirit and purpose of books, has proved one of the more savvy, if mysterious, publicity campaigns of recent memory. So for the lucky few who stumbled upon one, now’s the chance to bring that title back and give it to another reader. As store own Tony Weller would no doubt tell you himself, books survive only when reading thrives.
