The documentary "Two Spirits," which examines a hate crime against a transgender Navajo teen, will have free screenings Tuesday, Nov. 8 — at the City Library auditorium, 210 E. 400 South, Salt Lake City, and at the Taggart Student Center, Utah State University, Logan.

The movie looks at the short life and brutal death of Fred Martinez, a transgender teen who embodied the Navajo tradition of "two spirits" — people whose masculine and feminine sides are equally dominant. Martinez was beaten to death by a man who later bragged about the crime.

Director Lydia Nibley will be in attendance for a post-screening Q-and-A session at the Logan screening. Both screenings, presented by the Utah Film Center, are free to the public.
