Just because it's called the Sundance Film Festival doesn't mean you have to enjoy every event at a, well, movie theater — that's soooo 20th century. Rather, simply activate your computing device to access the following thoroughly modern services.

Sundance.org/festival: Refurbished last August, the site now offers updates and video interviews.

Cyber film guide: Find movie synopses, informative links, and many trailers. Films can be categorized by title, genre, festival category, city they are screened at, or venue. You can add movies to your schedule and post capsule reviews after seeing them.

News and updates: Sundance's team of bloggers and photographers will update the official site regularly with news about movies and events, plus slideshows with sound.

"Meet the Artists": Sundance has posted video interviews of all of the filmmakers from the U.S. dramatic and documentary competition films.

"Live@Sundance": The festival will stream live video from 16 events (details at sundance.org), including the opening news conference featuring founder Robert Redford and several panel discussions. The festival also will stream the introduction and Q&A session for the film "Life in a Day" on Thursday, Jan. 27, at 6:15 p.m., as well as simulcast the premiere on YouTube.

"The YouTube Screening Room": See 12 of this year's short films, plus eight other classic shorts from the past, at youtube.com/ytscreeningroom.

Social networking: Facebook and Twitter will be integrated into the Sundance website, as well as the location-based service Gowalla, so users can alert friends where they are at any instant.

Mobile apps: Available for iPhones and Android-based phones, the apps offer users the same functionality of the Sundance website. You also can access the festival's YouTube channel. The apps are $4.99 and can be purchased at the iTunes App Store and the Android Marketplace. Follow festival updates from The Salt Lake Tribune on Twitter at @sundancelive
