Saintly paintings
Heather Barron developed her artistic sense as a child in England, where stone saints look down from churches and monastic ruins. "I was surrounded by history, always having a great love for the patron saints of medieval times," Barron says. "I have come to realize that my works to this day are greatly influenced by my happy childhood and stories of 18th-century Europe. I initially began painting religious icons and saints, finding my inspiration from the Renaissance era." Her oils, paper collages and mixed-media work will be exhibited at Park City's Coda Gallery.

Marrying art and love
Two challenging exhibits will hang at Salt Lake Art Center through the New Year. "Go West: Promised Land or Exile?" explores the myths and truths of masculinity, progress and freedom spawned by the white settlement of the American West. Meanwhile, "Honeymoon" offers the very different approaches of two artists joined in matrimony. Kristin Calabrese's paintings are figurative and psychological, while husband Josh Aster's paintings are formal and abstract.
