Cowboy Poetry Gathering

Heber City's 16th annual Cowboy Poetry Gathering and Buckaroo Fair will be held this weekend. One of the largest events of its kind, this year's gathering features performances by Ian Tyson, the Bar J Wranglers, Sons of San Joaquin, Red Steagall, Hot Club of Cowtown, Suzy Boggus, R.W. Hampton and Wylie and the Wild West. Cowboy poet Waddie Mitchell hosts. There will also be more than 40 Western booths with arts, crafts and cowboy gear, a mountain-man camp, cowboy church, the Wild West show "Famous Outlaws of the West," music, horse competitions and the Cowboy Buckaroo Ball.

Rock the Vote benefit

Local band Neon Trees will headline a Rock the Vote benefit, whose organizers hope you voted earlier in the day. The Provo-based New Wave-inspired pop-rock band is known for the hit "Animal."

Be True to Your School

Provo will collect some good vibrations when the Beach Boys blow into town for a concert at the Covey Center for the Arts. Mike Love, Bruce Johnson and the rest of the boys will perform megahits such as "Surfin' USA," "California Girls," "Be True to Your School" and, of course, "Good Vibrations."

U. Symphony

The University of Utah Campus Symphony will perform Sullivan's Overture from "The Pirates of Penzance," and the "Berceuse" and finale from Stravinsky's "Firebird." The 65-member ensemble will be conducted by Sang-Wook Sim, Steve Voorhees and Jong-hun Bae.

There's always room for cello

The Portland Cello Project will bring eight cellos and its eclectic programming to Ogden. The group is known for its mix of music, which might include hip-hop mixed with Bach or a haunting cover of Britney Spears.
