If your summer vacation plans were hampered by economic troubles, the Global Film Initiative gives you a whirlwind tour of the world without leaving your theater seat.

The 7-year-old touring film program — which kicks off a weeklong run Friday, Sept. 10, at the Broadway Centre Cinemas, 111 E. 300 South, Salt Lake City — presents 10 films about life in developing nations: Algeria, China, India, Iran, Mexico, Peru, Serbia, South Africa, Uruguay and Vietnam.

The 10 movies are:

"Adrift (Choi Voi)" • (Vietnam) A love triangle involving a young wife, her best friend and a handsome stranger one summer in Hanoi.

"Becloud (Vaho)" • (Mexico) Three boyhood friends are reunited in Mexico City, overcoming a tragedy from their childhoods that scarred them and their neighborhood.

"Gods (Dioses)" • (Peru) A working-class woman about to marry a wealthy industrialist jumps into her lavish new life, while her future stepchildren desperately try to escape their privileged upbringing.

"Leo's Room (El Cuarto de Leo)" • (Uruguay) After a breakup, a young man is encouraged by an old friend and a therapist to explore his sexuality and dream of the future.

"Masquerades (Mascarades)" • (Algeria) A well-intentioned lie turns a village gardener into a mogul, and he must choose between his new celebrity and the happiness of his narcoleptic sister.

"My Tehran for Sale" • (Iran) A sick actress tries to get political asylum in Australia, while she recounts her life in Tehran's arts subculture.

"Ocean of an Old Man" • (India) After the 2004 tsunami in the Indian Ocean, a British schoolteacher searches for missing students on two remote Indian islands.

"Ordinary People" • (Serbia) Young soldiers on a bus are enlisted to execute civilian prisoners and suddenly must question the morality of their profession.

"The Shaft (Dixia de Tiankong)" • (China) Three interlocking stories about life in a Chinese mining town.
