Brigham Young University athletic director Tom Holmoe continues to add Pac-12 teams to the Cougars' future football schedules.

BYU announced Thursday morning that it has agreed to a home-and-home series with Arizona State. The Sun Devils will host the Cougars on Sept. 19, 2020 at Sun Devil Stadium/Frank Kush Field in Tempe. The Cougars will host the Sun Devils on Sept. 19, 2021 at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo.

BYU will move a scheduled home game against Virginia in 2020 to a different date.

"BYU-ASU is a great regional matchup that dates back to the 1930s," Holmoe said in a school news release. "As charter members of the Western Athletic Conference, we've enjoyed a rich football rivalry. We look forward to playing in Tempe again, where we have a lot of Cougar fans and alumni."

An independent, BYU now has future games scheduled against seven Pac-12 schools: ASU, Utah, Stanford, California, Washington State and Southern California.

Arizona State leads the series 20-7, with a 12-3 advantage in Tempe and an 8-4 advantage in Provo.

However, BYU swept the last series, beating ASU in 1997 in Tempe and 1998 in Provo.

"This football series with Brigham Young University renews one of our oldest and most interesting rivalries," said ASU Vice President for University Athletics Ray Anderson. "These two institutions and the communities they represent enjoy a long, rich history and a lot of common bonds between them.

Kickoff times and television coverage for the two games will be announced at a future date.
