BYU's bid to upset No. 21 UMass at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass., is not going well.

At halftime, the Minutemen have a 52-41 lead over the Cougars, thanks to some torrid shooting against BYU's porous zone defense.

Tyler Haws leads BYU with 15 points, but star freshman Eric Mika spent most of the first half on the bench with two fouls.

The Cougars trailed just 44-39 after a Haws jumper with just over three minutes remaining in the half, but the Minutemen went on an 8-0 run to get some breathing room.

A mild fracas with 8:59 remaining and UMass leading 25-21 did not turn out favorably for the Cougars. After Haws was taken down hard, a foul was called on UMass. However, Haws and Mike were assessed technical fouls for the pushing that ensued, and UMass was hit with only one technical foul.

A technical free throw and a 3-pointer pushed UMass' lead to 29-21.
