Kansas City • Tyler Haws scored 23 of his game-high 25 points in the second half and BYU advanced to the championship game of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic with an 86-82 win over Texas on Monday night at the Sprint Center.

Matt Carlino added 20 points and six assists and Eric Mika, wearing goggles after suffering an eye abrasion in last week's 90-88 loss to No. 21 Iowa State, chipped in 15.

BYU improved to 5-1 with the win, and Texas dropped to 5-1. The Cougars will play the winner of the late Wichita State-DePaul game on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. MST for the tournament title.

With the Cougars leading by a point in the final minute, Haws made an off-balance shot as the shot clock was about to hit zero to give the Cougars a cushion with 41 seconds left.

He scored BYU's last seven points, and 11 of its last 12.

The Cougars made their first six 3-point attempts and finished 10 of 12 from beyond the arc.
