NFL notes: Cardinals knock off Broncos

Ryan Lindley threw for two touchdowns for Arizona in a 32-24 victory over host Denver on Thursday night that capped a wild offseason for the Broncos.

Now, this summer's trendy Super Bowl pick heads into next week's NFL Kickoff against defending champion Baltimore after losing both of its "Doom & Gloom" pass-rush partners. Elvis Dumervil went to the Ravens in free agency after a fax foul-up, and Von Miller will begin serving a six-game suspension.

Together, they accounted for 29½ of Denver's league-leading 52 sacks last season.

How the Broncos make up for their absences will go a long way in determining if Miller's Super Bowl guarantee he made back in February was bold or blather.

Patriots 28, Giants 20 • At Foxborough, Mass., Tim Tebow may have done just enough to make the New England Patriots.

In an up-and-down performance in both teams' last preseason game, the third-string quarterback threw two touchdown passes and one interception. He was 6 for 11 for 91 yards and gained 30 yards on six carries.

Redskins 30, Buccaneers 12 • At Tampa, Fla., the Washington Redskins put together their first unbeaten preseason in 28 years without Robert Griffin III even taking a snap.

Griffin then tweeted Thursday night that he will be under center when the regular season opens for Washington on Sept. 9, but coach Mike Shanahan hedged after the victory over Tampa Bay. Shanahan said he needed to discuss some "concerns" with Dr. James Andrews and Griffin and would make a decision Monday about whether the 2012 Offensive Rookie of the Year will start against Philadelphia.

Around the league

Giants • Backup running back Andre Brown broke his left leg. He limped off the field against New England after a 3-yard run late in the first half Thursday night. He then walked slowly to the locker room, where X-rays showed a broken leg.

Vikings • Offensive lineman Seth Olsen was taken off the field on a stretcher in the second quarter Thursday night after injuring his neck in a collision with Titans linebacker Scott Solomon. Olsen was blocking on a screen pass when he took a knee from Solomon to his helmet. —
