Provo • Kim Beeston scored 17 points and Haley Steed added 13 as BYU downed San Diego State 69-58 in a women's National Invitation Tournament second-round game Saturday afternoon at the Marriott Center.

BYU will play the winner of Sunday's Northern Colorado-Saint Mary's game at a time and date to be announced later.

The Cougars improved to 23-10, while San Diego State fell to 27-7.

BYU led by as many as 15 points early in the second half, but the Aztecs rallied behind the shooting of Chelsea Hopkins (17 points) and Courtney Clements (15 points) to get within three with six minutes remaining.

A 3-pointer by Beeston with 2:06 remaining gave BYU a 63-53 lead, and the Cougars held on in the final minutes to advance.
