Provo • The Cougars are headed to the Big House.

The University of Michigan and BYU announced Tuesday that the Wolverines will host the Cougars in a college football game at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Sept. 26, 2015.

Michigan Stadium is known as the "Big House" because it seats 109,901 for football and is one of the most hallowed college football facilities in the country.

Although it does not appear Michigan has agreed to return the trip to Provo, BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe said in a school news release that he hopes to develop a long-term relationship with the Big Ten school.

"It's a great opportunity to play an outstanding football team in one of the legendary football stadiums in the country," Holmoe said. "Michigan had an opening in its 2015 schedule and the circumstance was right for BYU."

The Cougars have played Michigan just once in football, in the 1984 Holiday Bowl.

BYU won that game 24-17 and was named college football's national champion by both major polls at the time.
