BYU Football: Cougars will play at Nebraska in 2015

First Published Feb 23 2012 10:53 am • Last Updated Feb 25 2012 04:43 pm

Provo • A few weeks after promising BYU fans that some exciting football scheduling news was on the horizon, athletic director Tom Holmoe announced Thursday that the Cougars would play at Nebraska on Sept. 5, 2015.

The agreement does not include a home game for BYU against Nebraska, but in a school news release Holmoe hinted that there would be more matchups, saying "I look forward to developing a long term relationship with Nebraska."

The game will be played at Nebraska’s Memorial Stadium, widely considered to be one of the premier venues in all of college football.

It will be the first-ever meeting between the programs which have both won 38 games the past four seasons, a mark that ties them for 14th nationally in that span.

"This is a great opportunity to play an outstanding football team in one of the storied football stadiums in the country," Holmoe said. "Nebraska was looking for a game in 2015 and the timing was good for BYU."

The Cougars are also scheduled to play Boise State, Utah State, Hawaii, Notre Dame and Southern Miss in 2015, hosting Boise State (Sept. 12) the week after visiting Big Red.

Nebraska went 9-4 last season, its first season as a member of the Big Ten Conference, and was ranked No. 24 in both national polls.

The Cougars went 10-3, capped by a 24-21 win over Tulsa in the Armed Forces Bowl, and were ranked No. 25 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
