Quarterback Ammon Olsen, formerly of Southern Utah, has signed a scholarship agreement to attend BYU in 2012.

Olsen, who was the 5A MVP for Alta High in 2008, is expected to enroll in January after returning from an LDS Church mission. As a freshman at SUU in 2009, Olsen saw limited playing time, completing 8 of 14 passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns.

"Ammon is a big, strong athletic quarterback," BYU quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator Brandon Doman said. "He was not only an outstanding quarterback in high school but an exceptional basketball player as well."

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Olsen led Alta to a state championship in 2008. He completed 193 of 306 passes for 3,209 yards and 36 touchdowns. He also rushed for 860 yards.z
