PROVO — Brigham Young's future schedule as a football independent continues to take shape.

Monday, the Cougars announced they have agreed to a four-game series with Georgia Tech of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Cougars and Yellow Jackets will meet in 2012 and 2014 at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta.

They will meet in 2013 and 2017 at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo. All four games will be played in mid-October.

"This should be a great series for our football program," said BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe. "As we fill our schedules for the coming years, we want to play storied football programs like Georgia Tech. It is a great opportunity for Cougar fans in the Southeast to see our football team play."

The Cougars and Yellow Jackets have met twice before. They split a two-game series in 2002 and 2003, with BYU winning 24-13 at home and falling 28-19 in Atlanta.

Holmoe said he is "close" to finalizing the Cougars' 2011 schedule. So far, 10 games are scheduled, and two or three more are needed, depending on whether the Cougars use an NCAA waiver that allows teams to play 13 games during years they travel to Hawaii.

Holmoe acknowledged that one of those teams to be added will probably be a Football Championship Series team.
